Ash Wednesday

February 18 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, which kicks off 40 days of prayer and fasting— representing Jesus’ 40 days in the wilderness.

Ash Wednesday is Gospel service paired with a tangible reminder of human frailty (ashes). But while ashes are a mere sign of humanity and their divine and yet earthy origin (Gen 3:7) they also are used to accent our mourning and penitence over sin.

Ash Wednesday is not expected or required.

Ash Wednesday is not to be a false piety.

Ash Wednesday is not an addition to the ordinary means of grace.

Ash Wednesday does not demonstrate true repentance.

Christ Alone is enough. His life our righteousness, his death our justification, his resurrection our hope.

May this Lenten season only reveal the beauty and sufficiency of our Lord
