Part 6 – Physically Decaying, Spiritually Growing
although we still grow old, get sick, have serious mishaps occur to us, and eventually die, those who have come to a saving faith in Christ have the assurance that we will not only live eternally and receive new bodies, but our innermost being – our spirit, which is Christ’s life – will continue to grow and mature despite what might/will happen to our minds and bodies. Romans 8:10-11 tells us that,
“...if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of His Spirit who lives in you.”
And even though our bodies are subject to death and decay, the Spirit gives life – eternal life – but He gives us an abundant life, so if our minds are deteriorating because of trauma, age, mental illness, or disease, God’s Word here promises us that the Life of the Spirit will not only sustain us spiritually, but since Christ rose from the dead, then we who belong to Him are guaranteed an eternal life in the Spirit with Jesus forever. Encourage each other with these words.
