Pastor Randy’s Top 66 – Job

  |   Words of Grace

"I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see Him with my own eyes - I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!"  Job 19:25-27   At Grace Christian Fellowship we have been going through this amazing Book bit by bit, and it is full of wonderful spiritual gems, but these couple of verses are the crème de la crème of this Book. Job is suffering far more than any human (other than Jesus Christ) has suffered....

"When Esther’s words were reported to Mordecai, he sent back this answer: ‘Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?’"  Esther 4:12-14    I started by telling the incredible story of Esther, but it was getting too long….please read it for yourself….it’s an amazing story with plot twists, intrigue,...

Pastor Randy’s Top 66 – Nehemiah

"We will not neglect the house of our God."  Nehemiah 10:39   The children of Israel have been allowed to return from their Babylonian/Persian captivity and rebuild Jerusalem. In Ezra they rebuilt the Temple; in Nehemiah they rebuilt the walls around Jerusalem. When they were finished all the people rejoiced and committed themselves to the Lord, to His worship, and to His service. This verse (it’s actually the last sentence of a longer thirty-ninth verse) concludes a long covenant promise made by the leaders and people, which is the entire tenth chapter.   This verse “We will not neglect the house of our God”...

"For Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the LORD, and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel."  Ezra 7:10   The northern kingdom of Israel has been dispersed by the Assyrians; the southern kingdom has been taken into captivity by the Babylonians, who were later overtaken by the Persians. It has been 70 years since the Israelites had lived in Jerusalem, so in God’s providence great numbers of Israelites were allowed to go back to Jerusalem to rebuild the Temple (and the next Book – Nehemiah – is about the rebuilding of the walls...

“Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s…. You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.”   2 Chronicles 20:15, 17   For many years now, because of their rebellion, Israel has been divided into the northern kingdom of Israel and the southern kingdom of Judah. The northern kingdom of Israel had nineteen kings and not one of them was...

"And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve Him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, he will reject you forever. Consider now, for the Lord has chosen you to build a house as the sanctuary. Be strong and do the work."   1 Chronicles 28:9-10   King David wanted to build a House of Worship for the Lord – the Temple – but the Lord said that because David was a man of war, he would...

“Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lordopened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.   2 Kings 6:16-17   As Elisha and his servant awoke one morning they discovered that the city was completely surrounded by the enemy. The servant began to panic because he naturally figured that two of them were no match when compared to an entire army.   But the servant was...

"At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, ‘Ask for whatever you want me to give you.’ Solomon answered, ‘You have shown great kindness to your servant, my father David, because he was faithful to you and righteous and upright in heart. You have continued this great kindness to him and have given him a son to sit on his throne this very day. Now, Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. Your servant is here among the...

"When Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he bowed down to pay him honor.   David said, ‘Mephibosheth!’  ‘At your service,’ he replied.  ‘Don’t be afraid,’ David said to him, ‘for I will surely show you kindness (grace) for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.’   Mephibosheth bowed down and said, ‘What is your servant, that you should notice a dead dog like me?’"   2 Samuel 9:6-8   My favorite Old Testament story.  Mephibosheth was the...

"David said to the Philistine (Goliath), ‘You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.  All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s,...
